DeNormalised NOSQL 2012 / Real-time analytics on the Twitter Firehose with Apache Cassandra

Please RSVP for instructions on how to join the event.

Description

In this workshop for the DeNormalised NoSQL Roadshow, Dr Richard Low will step you through constructing an application to do real time analytics on the twitter firehose, using Apache Cassandra, and its advanced, distributed counters. With this application you will be able to see what trends of mentions of common phrases, words or people. This workshop will involve deploying and configuring a cluster of Cassandra nodes on EC2, designing a schema, constructing a script to import data and writing a front-end to visualise the data. We will use the twitter sample firehose, which returns a random sample of all public statuses. Knowledge of Python is preferred. No experience with Cassandra or Twitter is needed.
