In most software domains you can safely stick with one or two languages and, because the tools you are using are fairly easy to replicate, you’ll find almost anything you might need to finish your project. This isn’t true in data science and data engineering however. Whether it be some hyper-optimized data structure or a [...]

Last year was our first NYC F# tutorials and they were just amazing (you can read about them here) but this year’s are going to be even better. We’ve got a lineup including some of the most talented teachers in the F# community, and the tickets are extremely inexpensive as conferences and training events go. [...]

Rick Minerich (@rickasaurus) of Bayard Rock has implemented an F# Type Provider for MATLAB (TM). A GitHub home page for the project is also available. He would like people familiar with F# and/or MATLAB to use the type provider and give him feedback on it! My understanding is that you can use an evaluation copy of MATLAB to do this if you don't have one already. The project is open source on GitHub and actively seeking contributors. The aim is to enable similar interoperability as that achieved by the F#[...]

Earlier I posted about F# Deep Dives and its Early Access Program for reading chapters of the book as they become available. I'm particularly struck by the contents of Chapter 4 - Numerical computing in the financial domain by Chao-Jen Chen. This looks like a stunning guide to financial programming with F#. Here are the contents of the chapter (or, perhaps it will turn out to be multiple chapters!). An early draft of the chapter is already available under the Early Access Program. If you're into financial [...]

I'd like to draw your attention to the Early Access Program for F# Deep Dives, which looks like it will be a wonderful book! F# Deep Dives presents a collection of real-world F# techniques, each written by expert practitioners. Each chapter presents a new use case where you'll read how the author used F# to solve a complex problem more effectively than would have been possible using a traditional approach. You'll not only see how a specific solution works in a specific domain, you'll also learn how F# dev[...]
