Sorry, indeed there seems to be a problem with the Self Hosted template, I will notify here soon when it has been fixed. Thanks for the report!
Build/root folders was not set up correctly in the template, there is a new vsix downloadable now that has the fix. I could not reproduce a TargetInvocationException issue though, can you send me a stack trace and inner exception? Thanks!
Before I give the new vsix a go -
Application1.exe!Application1.SelfHostedServer.Main(string args) Line 85 F#
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException was unhandled Message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional information: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
That line had the eprintfn and exit which was running into the error with the messed up template. My intent was to separate bin\Debug and bin\Release folders for the Owin-hosted template, but as a quick fix I just reverted to previous version.
New-old template runs fine for me now.
Hello, I still get the issue I'm afraid. I cannot seem to find a useful stack trace, and there is no inner exception details.
If you like you could remote control my machine to see if it helps at all? This is with VS Community 2015 Update 3, I could try installing enterprise in case it has better debugging tools.

Hello,
When I create a new Self Hosted Client Server App and debug it throws a System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException.
I have tried a reboot, new fresh solutions, and upping the FSharp version to 4.4, but nothing has helped.
Does anyone else get this please? I'm sure it must be something odd about my machine.
