I don't work for MS, so this is pure speculation, but I know that Don is very keen to ensure that the compiler will run on Linux (via mono as it does today) and is able to produce assemblies that target the mono runtime (as it can do today). And Don seems have been pretty good at getting his own way so far, so I would guess we'll continue to see this kind of support.

However, the odds of you being able to raise pick up the phone and raise a support incident with MS about the F# compiler running under mono seem somewhat slim.

So I guess it depends on your definition of "support".

Cheers,
Rob

You're correct, I should be more specific. Will MS license FSharp under
it's "permissive" license ([link:www.opensourcelegal.org]
Will it continue to target mono as a tested platform?

As a potential user of the language (including commercial use), I'd like the
answer to both questions to be "yes", but that's probably not realistic.
It does affect the time investment I'll make in learning the language, however.
I don't think I'm alone in that thought process either.

Great language. Great ideas. Exciting stuff. If it's truely multiplatform, then
it's a slamdunk. Going that way would be a bold departure for MS, but
I hope they do.
