As a guess, maybe there are some bugs with F# metadata not supporting redirection? F# stores some binary metadata with each assembly.

Thanks, didn't think of that.
Since I wrote the question I learned that TypeForwardedToAttribute is not just an attribute read by the CLR... the C# compiler emits some specific IL when it finds it. So maybe it's just a case of not having enough time to implement it... still I have to check how FSharp.Core.dll does it, I see that in v2 the attributes are commented out...
