I believe issue #35 is no longer an issue with the latest WebSharper installers, that is, WebSharper installers should work even with VS Shell only. I have not closed the bug yet because we have not yet verified this is indeed the case.

What is your experience with WebSharper / VS Shell? Are you hitting issue #35? What version of installer are you using?

Also, it sounds like you are trying to build WebSharper from source, since the instructions from the README only apply to building WebSharper from source. For most people there is no need to do that, since there is a pre-compiled installer that offers the most convenience. If you *are* building WebSharper from source though, what exactly is the problem you have?

Either way, once you manage to get a working WebSharper on your machine, as Adam points out above, VS Shell will not smoothly work with multi-language templates. You should be able to work around that, it is just a matter of convenience.

FYI, there is also a Visual Studio 2011 Ultimate beta available that you can try without paying.

Very disappointing not to get any reply from this site (and yes I know no one is obliged to reply). But I'd very much like to try out Websharper but don't have a VS Pro licence. Shame. Regards, Ian

Visual Studio Shell with F# won't be able to run WebSharper solutions that have a dummy C# web application "bootstrap" project (although one can fix that manually with some work) - and online sitelets all do. However, you should be able to get offline sitelets and mobile projects based on offline sitelets working in Shell+F#.

Thank you Adam... Wouldn't care to elaborate your reply would you? I am a beginner and am looking for a beginner's guide in respect of how to get up and running. Any help appreciated..

Regards, Ian

It would help to know what you are actually running into. Did you try to install WebSharper? Did you try to run any solution templates? Once you get stuck, ask here and I'll do my best to answer.
